Ocho Rios, Jamaica

Ocho Rios is one of the anchor cruise stops on the Western Caribbean itinerary.

Probably the best known excursion is the hike up Dunns River Falls. This is a waterfall which flows directly into the Caribbean Sea. You will be delivered to the excursion site at the top of the falls, then walk down a paved path to the bottom. From there, starting right on the edge of the sea, you will make your way back up the falls, usually in groups for help and safety, with the refreshing water rushing by you all the way.

For those who don't wish to actually hike in the water, there are wooden steps beside the river which provide a great vantage for taking pictures of your more adventurous friends!

I took these GPS coordinates during my visit here in October 2003. You cannot see the river in the picture due to the extensive tree cover. You can see the water disturbance where the river empties into the sea.

This is a classic Western Caribbean experience, everyone should try it at least once.
