St. Thomas, United States Virgin Islands. This is reported to be the busiest
cruise ship port in the world, and it's not too hard to figure out why. With
two large cruise docks, there is room for many ships, and the island is a tourist
haven, with shopping, swimming, snorkeling, even a second island, St. John, close
enough for a day visit.
I was fortunate enough to spend a week on St. Thomas several years ago at the Elysian
Beach Resort, which is marked on the east end of the island. Also marked are the
airport, Red Hook, where you catch the ferry to St. John, Cruz Bay, where the ferry
to St. John drops you off, Trunk Bay, probably one of the best known snorkeling sites
in the world, and Magens Bay, a very popular beach on the north shore of St. Thomas.
